Some of the comments we have received so far: (PAGE 7)
- I am an adopted child and understand the value of having opportunities that would not have been mine. I have a friend that has been waiting for 3 years and will lose the opportunity to adopt a second child.
- The government needs to start being proactive with dealing with other countries. Too many children suffer due to ineffective & headstrong governments.
- I am an adoptive mother with one daughter who has been home for five years now. We are waiting for her little brother or sister. The wait has been too, too long ...although of course the expected outcome is enough reward.
- Adoption is a hugely expensive process. Please dont discriminate with the maternity bonus just because the adoptive child is over 2 years.
- We've been in the process of adopting a child from overseas for 5 years now... and counting. It's heartbreaking to know that even once our family is formed we will experience discrimination from the government in terms of costs and benefits. Please implement these changes as a matter of urgency. Thank you.
- We live in a very fortunate country - those of us who choose to adopt would be doing a good thing to raise that child's education, life-expectancy and future in general... what an extraordinary privilege!
- I agree with all the above recommendations. Adoption is a win-win-win situation: for the children, the adopting family and Australian society. The Australian government should make adoption easier and less expensive, accessible to all who feel they wish to adopt.
- We did adopt from Korea some 20 years ago & more stringent than single mothers go through in Aust. Many many babies in Korean orphanage for adoption at the time. It was a win win for us & baby Elise.
- We support the above petition and hope this will help to resolve the urgent issues affecting those families wishing to adopt children outside of Australia.
- It shouldn't be so hard to do something so good.
- The staye of Australia's asoption situation makes no sense at all. I totally back this petition.
- Singles should be under the same rules as couples & should not be discriminated against by the system of the social workkers.
- A friend has been trying to adopt for 10 yrs & has gone through uneccessary hell within the system due to bungling & discrimination. Not on! She is the best Mum & her gorgeous bio child is living proof.
- Come on, get your act together. This is too inmportant an issue to stuff around on!Great petiton, makes total sense, let's get some long overdue action!!
- As prospective adoptive parents we sincerely hope that some changes are made.
- For a progressive country, Australia is highly recessive in terms of its adoption policies. Why can't we adopt Australian children being abused & under the so called watch of Himan Services? What life do these poor children have?
- What better start could you give to a precious little human being than a loving, caring family. So many couples in Australia are willing to do just that so why not review the policies & give both the children & couples a fulfilling life together. Stop with the barriers and long waiting times, give thought now, not closer to election time.

- It is absolutely essential that we improve the adoption situation in Australia. There are many deserving couples who would dearly love to be able to adopt children from their own country rather than having to travel overseas to achieve this.
- Waiting period seems to be getting longer.
- I am an adopted child and understand the value of having opportunities that would not have been mine. I have a friend that has been waiting for 3 years and will lose the opportunity to adopt a second child.
- My wife and I waiting for an allocation from China. When we started we we told 18 months was the average "turnaround". It took 12 months for our "file" to be prepared and sent to China (and we're told that was quick!) and now we look like we're going to be waiting 3 years + for our child. We keep reading about couples in the US that have their child within 12 months from starting the process.....what are they doing that enables it occur quicker is what I want to know and why aren't we doing it!
- Bring these poor helpless children into loving Aussie families. It is the Aussie way!
- The adoption laws need to be revamped to make the process more streamlined for adoptive parents so that many children will have good lives in Australia.
- The process is too long, too expensive, too stressful and too inconsistent amongst states. It is simply unfair and heartbreaking for the children growing up in orphanages and the families that wait so long to bring them into their family and want to love them so dearly.
- It is highly inappropriate that our system encourages and subsidises IVF of donor egg and donor sperm, while placing expensive and timely restrictions on the adoption of children already in existence.
- Please extend baby bonus to post 2 years - we get no immunisation bonus & have to pay higher airfare and often children are like babies needing cots, highchairs. Let private agencies in as bureacracy is not working. Too frustrating - let's all move to the States.
- It horrifies me that any mentally unstable person can give birth to a child to get the bonus yet someone who legitimately wants a child has to go through such incredible lengths just to be considered
- I don't see why the federal government cant make it less restricting for people who want to adopt children. Child adoption is a beautiful thing and she government should make it easier for people.
- GIVE THE CHILDREN A CHANCE SO THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE LOVED AND CARED FOR.
- We believe in a fair go, give them one.
- Why is it that Australian 'Red Tape' is preventing genuine Australian families from adopting children? Australia needs babies, and these poor babies need safe and loving homes... it makes sense!
- As an Australian I am embarrassed that we as a nation have the 2nd lowest adoption rate in the developed world!
- This issue needs much needed attention!!!
- The laws definitely need to be changed its not fair that people who need and want a child have to wait so long and also the poor little children could be living in a loving and caring home.
- As a gay man im all for it! One day i hope to adopt!
- I provide my support for this petition.
- please reduce the red tape so those who have no choice but to adopt can have more than one child without the often 5 year rime span adopt
- Let us support OS Adoption.
- Children need a loving & supporting life & we all can do this!
- This can be the only chance for some of us to ever experience parenthood. Please make it easier for us!
- My sister would like to have a child of her own and this may be her only means. Please help reduce the red tape!
